There are many different climates in the huge country of China, but they can be simplified into five:
The northeast including Beijing has extremely cold dry winters and warm moist summers.
The central eastern part including Shanghai has cold dry winters and hot wet summers.
The southeast including Hong Kong has warm dry winters and hot, very wet summers.
The northwest, the originally Muslim province of Xinjiang in Central Asia, contains deserts and is very dry. The winters are extremely cold (it borders Siberia) and the summers hot – extremely hot in the case of the Takla Makan desert, which contains the Turfan Depression, the second lowest point on earth, well below sea level, and one of the hottest places on earth (summer only).
The southwest is the province of Xijiang (Tibet) which is the world’s largest and highest plateau. Even in summer it is cold here, and extremely cold in winter. Snowfall is light, so you could say it is dry.
