Is my cable modem a network adapter?
I think i already have one but not sure.

Your cable modem does not function as a network adapter. The first step you need to take is to setup a home network.
In order to do this, you will need a Cable/DSL router. In your case, it will need to be wireless. I would recommend purchasing one from NewEgg.com, it’s my favorite place to buy technology gear!
Just look for a 54mbps, Wireless-G router from Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, Belkin, or Buffalo. Those are the commonly known “good” brands.
The router you buy comes with a four-port switch. On the back of your router, you will find a “WAN” or “Connect to Internet” port. Your instruction manual should have more details. Plug in the cable that previously ran to your PC into that port. Then, use the cable included with your router, and plug that into your PC. The other end will go into one of the open ports on your router, 1-4.
Now comes the wireless music system. You buy that, and it wireless works off your router. I’m not sure what the deals are at right now, but the router portion of the costs should be anywhere from $30-50 if you find a good deal. Plus whatever the music system costs.
