I have a 96 prelude I was planning to buy 2 sets of the Sony 6 1/2″ 4-Way Speakers, 270 Watts Power Handling, XSR1643, 1 for each side of my car. Are these good speakers? Do I need an amp for them to work properly? Would I need to get 2 amps one for each set? Would I need to buy new crossovers for them to work properly?
You should look at your end goal with the project; are you looking to build a system that is just better than what’s in the car currently? Maybe improve the system on a budget?
There are tons of speakers, companies etc out there. Basically the more money you throw at it the higher the performance.
For what you are looking at buying you do not need to buy crossovers.
If you want better clarity and a decent sound take a look at a component speaker setup, you should be needing crossovers at this point. Now the fun is locating all these parts and pieces in the vehicle… One decently sized 4 channel amp will work fine. The more amps you add the more screwing around you will need to do, if space is a factor then you may consider it.
Buy the best stuff you can afford, pay the money for good, correctly sized wiring with the properly sized fuses. Make sure everything is connected properly and take your time.
If your doing this yourself, make sure you know what your getting into… frying your car’s electronics, stereo, yourself etc. sucks
