I don’t want low to ground because snakes tend to gather in low bushes here. I want something that’s already three to four feet tall, if possible. We would like the bushes to cover our porch, as we have made some repairs that look okay, but we don’t like the alternatives for replacing the porch. So we want to cover it, preferably year round. Hence, an evergreen.
You could use any evergreen tree available, but just cut the lower branches off once it’s established. I would lean towards a type of cedar, though, because they are naturally insect resistant.
I’m including this site because it talks a lot about using Eastern Red Cedar for blockage….
