So, I was recently given a fairly fancy pair of stereo speakers and I’d like to wire them to my laptop. What I’ve done so far is spliced an aux cable and gone red to red and black to black with the spliced aux cable and the wires from the speakers. The issue is when I plugged the speakers into the aux port I’m barely getting any sound. Both speakers do have a tiny bit of sound, but it’s barely audible. Any ideas?

Speakers like that are designed to be powered by some form of an amplifier, of which you are not going to find built into a computer’s sound card. You will want to get an external amplifier to get decent sound this way.
