I’ll be interviewing two bio professors on animal ethics, should I carry a voice recorder, or just a pen and paper? Should I carry it but sort of hide it from the professor and just write what he says. I know I’m going to be uncomfortable if I have to write while he’s talking or pausing for me to write. I don’t know how interviews are supposed to work!
Any advice/ suggestions? Thanks.
I’m sure they would be very surprised – perhaps even amused – if you showed up with no means of recording the interview. There is no need to hide anything, but a recorder would be better. It is not possible to write at the same speed as somebody talks, and being asked to repeat things (to allow you to get it all written down) would be very irritating for any interviewee
