There’s no need for a physical fence. When fences have to be really tall in order to prevent your dog from jumping over, owners realize that it is not a sound choice. Having a fence will only cover your house from the inside and even on the outside. The word “radio” in Petsafe radio fence plays a big reason why there is no need for actual walls: a transmitter broadcasts a radio signal around your house, effectively creating an invisible bubble with your dog inside it.
The receiver is harmless. When a dog sporting the receiver collar gets close to the boundary, he will hear a warning sound to keep from advancing. Boundary flags can also be placed so that the dog can associate the warning from the visual clues. The dog will feel a mild static correction if he proceeds to cross the boundary area. The static can be easily adjusted to ensure that the dogs will only feel minor discomfort. As part of his training, he will soon be able to stay away from the boundaries and will eventually keep out even without the receiver.
It works on several dogs at once. Experienced dog owners know for a fact that having more than one dog on a leash is very tough work. It trains your dog. The Petsafe radio fence was not meant to permanently trap your dog inside a bubble. As long as the dog is over 8 pounds and he can stay or sit when commanded, the Petsafe radio fence can be used. The key here is that when he nears the boundary flag, he will be prevented from advancing. Once you see that your dogs stay within perimeter, you remove the receiver without really getting the attention of your dogs.
