I have a 1.8 hdd with PATA connection (a Samsung) that I did not need. I would like to make use of it, so i was thinking about buying an enclosure for it (even better if it is a media player enclosure). Can I use a 3.5″ enclosure or a 2.5″ enclosure for my 1.8″??? They are much cheaper…
a 2.5 enclosure could work as long as the connectors on your 1.8 are the same size……..otherwise you’ll have to get an adapter and then your cost is going to be the same as getting a 1.8 enclosure anyways……the main reasoning behind the extra cost is not just the size….its the interface. It is slightly different and since the drive is more compact the power requirments are also slightly different.
All depends on how you want to use the drive……if you are just looking to use it as a large capacity jump type drive, then spend the extra money to get the right size….if you just want to use it for backup purposes, you can use the 2.5 enclosure (slightlly modified).
