I have a Scosche 2-channel amp (http://www.pricecanada.com/p.php/Scosche-SA550-2-Channel-Bridgeable-033991005181-453434/) and it sounds like crap. For subs, I got two sony 12″s in the same speaker box (not sure specificall what model). Just trying to figure out how the hell to control the sound better to what I want. I basically want alot more bass, but I want it to have more of a uniformed “punch” instead of the muddy sound it makes now. Its like the bass is constantly muddy and swamps out the songs. Kinda hard to explain. Im just looking for what I can with my CURRENT setup (dont want any answers saying to get new stuff). For controls on my amp: “Hi Input” (+L- +R-). “Level” (min – max). “Crossover” (40Hz – 400Hz). Filter (Low, Off, High). Bass Boost (0db – 12 db). No idea about what any of these mean to much so any info would be great. Thanks
learn how to tune the amp. I’ll bet a hundred bucks your amp is tuned improperly.
First no bass boost. That’s for certain wave frequencies and most pro’s don’t use ‘em.
Second, make sure your power wire is adequate and your lights are not dimming.
next set the crossover to 100hz or 80 hz.
next use test tunes or a high quality recorded song to set the amp. set the volume at 75% or when u hear the speakers distort on a newer song like lady gaga as opposed to a hip hop track which doesn’t have great frequency band line. Pop music hits many levels evenly. more or less.
make sure it’s recorded at at least 280 kbps, that’s themusic quality when u record or download a song. Higher bit rate means better quality and less muddy and distorted bass.
now increase the gains on the amp til u hear the sub distort. a 80hz test tone is great for this. When u hear the sub distort then stop. if it sounds boomy (I use a track by Erykah Badhu and Common- “Love of my life”, perfect bass to check for boominess. If it sounds boomy add polyfill. U can get it online or at a arts & crafts shop like Michaels. It’s for stuffing. Add and fill about 75% of the box. or 50%, test each one without screwing in the sub, with it pointing up.
well, look up “how to properly set amplifier” on google and youtube for more indepth details. I made that mistake 12 years ago when I installed my first amp. Then I began educating myself.
