I have a sony home theatre system complete with dvd player, sub, 2 big speakers, 1 medium and 2 small speakers mounter high.

Sounds like you have it in the wrong mode. Be sure that you don’t have it in stereo mode.

And by all means, read the use manual. I know that’s a rediculous thing to ask, seeing as how it is so difficult. But you would be amazed at how much you can learn from it.
