I have a home theater and I want a 120″ fixed screen. I have seen a couple of different brands out there. Including elite screens, da lite screens, and the much cheaper accuscreens. what is the difference in these? How much of a difference would it make if I went with accuscreens instead of Elite?
The thing to look at is the gain and the viewing angle. You may want to draw the floor layout of your theatre so you can determine the maximum viewing angle. This would be the end of the front row viewing the opposite end of the screen. Based on that you can determine the viewing angle you need in the material. Your ambient lighting conditions and projector brightness will determine how much gain you need.

As for brands, I’m not sure how much difference that really makes. If you get the parameters you need in terms of gain and viewing angle you should be ok. If you really want to save money you can buy the Dalite material here…

Making the screen isn’t that difficult, stretching the material is the hard part especially if you go with a curved screen like I made for my HT. Still, I built a screen for about $500 that would have cost $4200 to buy… in a kit that I would have had to assemble anyway…
