I was thinking of getting a HDMI splitter, and 2 HDMI cables. If I plugged the HDMI splitter into the ps3, then plugged both HDMI cables into the splitter, and then plugged in the TV and DVD recorder into both HDMI cables, would I be able to record my gameplay footage on the DVD recorder.
Example:
PS3 > HDMI splitter > HDMI cable > TV
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . > HDMI cable > DVD recorder
1st answerer: Then why does my DVD recorder have a HDMI input if it can’t record in HD?
If HD doesn’t work, is it possible to record in standard definition? You see my AV out on the ps3 is broken. Is there such thing as a HDMI splitter that splits into a HDMI out and an AV out?
No.
DVD recorders cannot record in HD. You will have to get a (very expensive) Blu-Ray recorder to do that.
If you record with a DVD recorder, it will be in standard definition.

To allow you to record from an HD source, which will be down-scaled to SD.
DVD recorders and players don’t play or record in HD, any more than a record turntable can play a CD.

No. HDMI is digital and AV out is analogue. You can’t mix the two.
