i bought a flat screen tv two years ago and i believe I could surf the channels then, but last year and this year i can type in the numbers, sleep timer, volume,all that. the only thing i cant do is channel up or down. I think i dealt with this before with another tv, so i don’t think its broken. plus if it broke wouldn’t more then one button not work? So is there any tricks or like reprogramming thing?

The fact that some of the functions work rule out the remote needing to be programed, I would think your remote is bad or specifically certain buttons inside have a residue built up and they don’t function well or at all. I have had a few of my remotes do this over the years and cleaning them inside helped. They can be tricky to near impossible to get apart at times so you may want to just get a universal type of remote some where. I have gotten them at Walmart or similar type store for as little as 10 or 15 dollars.
