I was at a party last night nothing massive but i used my home hifi for the music, i have a cambridge audio amp, and a set of mission 120w speakers, i had it turned up 3/4 of the way for most of the evening, for the first 1-2 hours it was fine, but towards the end the sound started to judder, any idea why this would be?

You are “overdriving” the speakers.
This causes ‘clipping’, where the peaks (the loudest parts) in the music are cut off, because the speakers can’t handle it, causing the ‘juddering’ effect you describe. If you keep doing it, you will burn out the voice coils of the speakers.
You will either have to keep the volume down, or buy a more powerful setup.
