Bose Acoustimass actually emits sound with the speakers. In Bose speak it is a bass module not a sub woofer. This unit uses a version of wave guide technology patented by Bose to combine a wind pipe enclosure with under sized speakers to produce a narrow specified range of sound from the unit. This is both a blessing and a curse. Bose attempts to produce a sonic signature within human ear capacity, by design they pick a sweet spot in the core of what the human ear can detect minus the use of an equalizer. This works well in that Bose sound is predictable to friend and foe alike. The criticism is that Bose selection of sonic signals doesn’t do all things well, because Bose selects what you hear, based on how the brain perceives sound and the ear picks up sound. Some do not take this aspect of science into consideration and dismiss this approach to blend technology to music.
So, the shortest answer is yes. the Bose Acoustimass module actually emits sound.
