I’m quite certain that transmitting a dtv signal is less, but I haven’t been able to find any figures. I’ve found a few references suggesting that dtv will save energy for our transmitters, but then why isn’t this considered an energy issue? (that’s read: Why would Obama and Congress delay an energy saving measure?)
I think the change is being made to improve picture quality and to free up some frequency spectrum space rather than to conserve energy. Conserving energy is just a minimal by product of the change. Now it becomes a matter of making the inevitable change with the least financial burden and inconvenience to the provider and the user. How they determine when is the best time for the change one can only guess. Obviously they think they made a mistake when they set the change over date in the first place otherwise they would not be extending the date. I seriously doubt that energy conservation is even considered while attempting to set a time for the change over.
I know that does not answer your question but it gave me a chance to write an answer, even if it`s wrong, about something that is important for a change.
